Blue Plate Special

We have two lovely items for our Blue Plate Special giveaway this week. Try and guess what the theme is!

One is this gorgeous original painting by Cori Dantini. (ARV: $200)

“Tree Hugger” (6X8)

Cori is an incredible artist that is very loved by the Where Women Create/Where Women Cook family. (Seriously, how could you not love her with this photo?? Impossible!)

Here’s a little bit about Cori…

cori dantini received her BFA from washington state university, in pullman washington. this is also where she grew up (gazing upon the rolling wheat fields of the palouse).

and THIS is exactly where she finds herself (happily) again after many years away. only this time, she is accompanied by her own family; a husband liam, a son henry, and her borderchowbrador lucy.

she spends her days working in her studio doing all kinds of cutting, pasting, and painting while listening to book after book on tape. she also loves to listen to great music, watch a fantastic movie, read a good book, and to have a good laugh (not all at once, of course). oh- and a nice walk now and again also is enjoyed, especially if there is a bird sighting or two.

the creative process? at the moment i find myself drawn to the notion of capturing simple (whimsical) moments in imaginary places. when i was a child i spent hours drawing a cast of buggish characters who lived in mushrooms and flowers, so it seems only natural to visit these ideas again. now the ideas are a little more thoughtful (perhaps?). the notions of sharing moments, wondering about things, listening… chatting. waiting. friends. family. home. i suppose i am terrifically interested in all the things that fill us up.

by layering elements of vintage paper, pencil, paint, and pen i am looking to create a naive representation of these “filled up” moments. my hope is to capture something tangible about HOW we are, not WHO we are, and to do it with a touch of whimsical irony.

As our kitchen item, we have a very special one today. It’s a gorgeous, solid-wood, large, Lazy Susan from Vintage at Heart that has been hand crafted out of a retired wine cask. This will be a family heirloom, it is so pretty and solidly made. (Please note, that these are one of a kind works of art. The Lazy Susan pictured may not be the one you receive.) These are stunning in person and make a GREAT tool for home life and entertaining alike.

Solid Wood Reclaimed Wine Cask Lazy Susan (ARV: $175)

I am enamored with all these likeminded women who enjoy and use things previously loved. One of my prized preloved utensils is a stirring spoon so well used the end is flat rather than rounded.

  32. Catherine

I am fascinated by the creative process and inspiration. Where does the talent come from? I have the perfect place to hang the tree hugged.

Saving trees is a really good idea, good trees though. We are finishing a hunting lodge and my husband used the Western cedars that he cut from our property (which are extremely invasive and are killing the oak trees) for the beams and trim.

Finding out that so many women love vintage kitchen tools. How can you NOT think of your grandmother? We used vintage kitchen tools as decor for my daughter’s Bridesmaid Luncheon. Every guest received a vintage or vintage inspired apron, and a homemade cookbook with family recipes from both Bride and Groom’s families. Really fun….
