Do you love to bake pies? Do you have a great story? Would you love to be published in a cookbook? Could you use an extra $1,000 in your bank account?
WWWC PRESS is producing a new publication slated for a Summer 2012 release and we would love for you to be a part of it!
PIEOGRAPHY: Where Pie Meets Biography, The Story of Your Life in a Pie
The concept is simple. We want you to share the “ingredients of your life” with our readers. We want them to visualize and taste your world in a pie of your making. What does it taste like to be a daughter, a mother, a wife, an artist, a chef, or a baker? What does it taste like to start college, be in love, walk through the door the first day of your new job, get married, raise children, lose your job, get divorced, or live happily ever after? Can you imagine the complexity or simplicity of your life right now transformed into the All-American Pie?
What combination of ingredients tell the story of your dreams … or your reality: Is your pie loaded with fresh fruit picked from backyard trees or your summer garden and one that is served for dessert? Is it a hearty main course or is it filled with home grown vegetables and to be served as a side dish? Is it baked in miniature so that it is simply a guilty pleasure when one is needed?
And with Thanksgiving coming up, it will be the perfect time to perfect your recipes and try them out on a willing crowd!
PIEOGRAPHY will tell the stories an convey the flavor of 25 very different women through the ingredients in their pie. And three of those spots will belong to some of you!
The grand prize winner will receive $1000 and publication in our cookbook.
Two runners up will be selected to also be published in our cookbook.
To enter, write an original 300-word essay and create an original pie recipe that speaks to the life and loves, the style, personal taste and medley of flavors that make up your life. Don’t worry, you can email it to loraleechoate (at) gmail (dot) com with the subject line: PIEOGRAPHY ENTRY. Entry

Winners will be notified by email and provided with further details.
(Good luck!)

Hi Loralee,
I have a question about the Pieography contest. I really, really want to enter. However, I’m struggling with the aspect of the requirements that call for an “original” pie recipe. The recipe I want to submit is something I modififed slightly from an existing recipe. Someone might look at it and think it resembles their recipe. As a librarian, I’m super conscientious about “copyright” issues, but I also tend to think that most recipes are simply versions of other ones. Do you see this as a huge issue? Any thoughts?
Thanks for your time!

I am wondering about the recipe being original also. How original can a blackberry pie be? I can tweak the recipe a little. But it is basically blackberries, sugar, flour and a bit of butter. (my essay is pretty good though…!)
Just don’t outright steal something. We’re fine with tweaking. And there are tons of cherry pie recipes. And food for thought: recipe INGREDIENTS cannot be copyrighted, just the directions. Just do your best. We’re looking for the combo of recipe and story. .
Hi Loralee,
I have a question also on what a “pie” is. Are you looking for traditional pie-crust with filling on top type recipes or “any pie creation whether we make the crust with regular flour-butter or use other things to make that crust layer (phyllo dough for example?) does not matter, as long as it represents some type of pie for us?
I know it is late in the game maybe but I just found out about this competition today.
Any kind of pie. The only limitation is your imagination! We can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Debbie Saviano sent me to your site, and I am so glad she did! I love it. This is such an awesome idea because those that love to cook and grew up with women who loved to cook know that there is always personality and love in a cherished recipe. I can’t wait to send in mine!
Thanks!
Thanks so much, Kelli! I can’t wait to read yours!
Hello! My entry above for Bananaganache Pie doesn’t always “behave” when it is clicked. If you don’t see Bananaganache when you click on it, check on the right hand site for recent entries and look for the word “Pieography” or find the December 11 blog entry.
Having so much fun reading everyone’s essays and recipes! Thanks for the fun contest!
I loved participating in this. It brought me back to a simpler time in my life that I would be well served to think of more often. I have worked in many art media over the course of my life as an artist, but I continue to work in and be inspired by “PIE,” trying new fillings, different ways to throw it together, and sometimes being very surprised by the final art.
Thanks. I love pie.
