Some bric-a-brac fun in the kitchen

I love the collection of tips that Ronelle has for us today. I am a sucker for glass bottles, jars and tins of all shapes and sizes.

Being someone who loves everything old and weathered, I am constantly on the lookout to recycle used things or come away with affordable means to bring interest, beauty and comfort into my life. The French brocantes is my favorite “spending” place. Anything from old linen to clothes to garden tools to kitchen stuff grabs my attention and I struggle to move on when something whispers to me…”Buy me, buy me..”
I’m such a sucker for those whisperings!.

*An iron “front door mat” becomes a sturdy as well as aesthetic potholder next to the stove. Large enough for huge pots or wide pans. Because I find spoon rests too small, I buy old enamel dishes to use as spoon rest next to my stove.

*Recycle old colored bottles; add a spout and create your own collection of oil bottles, place in a vintage wine bottle keep handy by the stove.. Look for dark coloured bottle to keep the oils from direct light.

*A collection of vintage tins hold those loose silver napkin rings, recipe ideas and all kinds of paraphernalia that usually end up scattered in a drawer.

*A few old glass café bon bon jars to hold small kitchen tools like baking rings and small serving bowls and other small kitchen stuff. At the same time all is stored and it adds interest to a shelf.

*An old leather handbag serves as a holder for recycling plastic bags. All plastic bags get rolled in a ball and tossed in this old leather handbag.

* Collect old trophies and use as holders for spoons in the coffee corner, or sugar cubes, or dessert forks. As part of a collection of old silver items, they reflect the kitchen light beautifully, adding a special charm to your kitchen.

  1. The metal floor mat idea is brilliant. I’m a sucker for flea market finds too. They have so much character.
